Henry Wins Bronze at States. Long Places Fifth

Bears wrestling seniors Gavin Henry, Matt Long, and Wiliam Burgess, again represented Union City very well at states in Hershey, as they highlighted another very successful season of sports for fans of the hometown Bears.

Gavin Henry brought home a bronze medal at 182 pounds, while Matt Long placed fifth as a heavyweight. Henry fought back after a loss to Dayton Pitzer of Mount Pleasant on Friday. But in the consolation finals, Henry first defeated Derek Yingling of West Branch, and then Ellwood City’s Austin Walley, by a score of 10-1 in the third place match on Saturday.

Long, meanwhile defeated fell District 10 competitor Derek Skeehan of Reynolds with a pin at 2:01. With the pin, he finished 5th overall in the entire state in the heavyweight division.
