Union City Fire Department Assists at Deadly Blaze

The coroner has released the names of the elderly man and woman who died in an overnight fire in Crawford County.

The victims are Fredrick Doner, 72, and Sandra Doner, 74. Both died from asphyxiation due to smoke inhalation, and their deaths have been ruled as accidental, according to Crawford County Coroner Scott Schell.

Firefighters were called to the fire at 18737 Shauberger Rd. in Athens Township at 12:35 a.m. Thursday. Pennsylvania State Police were later called to the scene.

Fire crews from Centerville, Spartansburg, Bloomfield Township, Hydetown and Townville put out the flames. Corry and Union City fire departments also responded to the fire to assist.
